Hi,

While discovering the clients, only WMI protocol should be used and make sure SNMP protocol is disabled. If you have followed the above steps correctly, you can use Troubleshooting Tool and use WMI Test to trouble shoot the issue. You will find more information regarding Client Monitoring in this white-paper - http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/extras/m/white_papers/20218168.aspx

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks,
Vijay

We use SNMP for printer and network devices and WMI for Windows client.  I configured both in the same discovery range for all subnet e.g. 172.22.50-56.* (52 subnet for client, 53 for network devices and 56 for servers)

As your advice. Seems I need to separate the discovery between SNMP and WMI.. Will try this and let you know later.

I just run troubleshooting tool and use WMI with the domain service account(domain admin rights). It returns below information. Not sure if it means the test was passed?

WMI
MAC Address 1 5C:26:0A:1C:50:F7
Windows NameSpace Present
Dell Client Agent (OMCI) NameSpace Present

Hi,

The first thing to check will be this:

  • Are you able to connect to these clients/servers using the applicable procotol? you can verify this using dell troubleshooting tool
  • Have you enabled multiple protocols are performed range discovery? If yes, can you try enabling specific protocol for the server/client and check if that helps. This will help us narrow down the problem, if any.

Okay, this is useful information. Now, can you do this? Just enable WMI protocol while performing discovery and provide only the client IP, this will help us narrow down the problem even more.

Yes. It does mean the test passed. You can try discovering the client ranges with only WMI protocol selected and see if it works for you.

Thanks,

Vijay

Also, can you confirm which are the clients you are trying to discover. I mean the model.

Hi Pupul,

The client was running on WIN7 Enterprise and it was a production domain member which has firewall shutdown (ping test passed).

Actually this client is the case that it never appears in OME discovered list but everything should fine on it (which is wired for me and I believe we should have much other clients like this?)

By the way, what kind of Optplex/Latitude model numbers are these?

Are these devices in a WAN or LAN environment?

Hi Rob,

I created a test discover/inventory with specific IP address for a test client. Disabled SNMP with only WMI enabled. After run this search it shows discovered 1 device.

However, it shows different computer name in OME inventory than what I configured in Windows 7.

Do you know why?

Ok, yeah, just WMI like you said...that's good.

Is DNS properly setup for thix box?  ping -a ipAddr

Does that return the same name?

Did you change the name resolution preferences in the discovery schedule settings page?  (netbios vs dns?)  That could account for it.

Thx

Rob

Hi Rob,

The situation turns better now. Thanks for the help..

Another issue - I had few Windows 7 Enterprise x64 machines were having issue on install the OMCI.

It prompts - The current user does not have elevated administrator privileges. System Management software can only be installed by a user with elevated administrator privileges. Consult the User Guide for additional information.  I actually use the domain admins account for the installation.
