27 All-in-One EC27250, Dell OSD stopped functioning

I have Dell all in one PC. I also have a laptop connected to the AIO via an HDMI port. I use an OSD button to switch the input sources (PC and HDMI), and everything worked until I have installed several updates on Saturday. 4 updates were pushed by Dell, including a BIOS update, and one update came from NVIDIA (driver/app update). There were no Windows updates or any other updates, and no hardware changes. All updates were successful, the AIO had to reboot and was functioning normally. However, the OSD button is no longer working - it does not switch inputs. If I shutdown the AIO PC, the screen automatically recognizes the HDMI port, and I can use the laptop; if I turn on the AIO PC, it boots normally and I can use it, but I can't switch to the HDMI port (laptop). I tried to cold reboot the AIO (power off the system); I tried to reinstall the DELLOSD application (downloaded from the Dell support site), and spent considerable time with Dell support (who asked me to do the same things - reboot, install the DELL OSD app, check the cables, etc.) - nothing helps. The only odd thing I have noticed is that the icon in Control Panel named "DELLOSD" is greyed out and when I click on it says that this function is not associated with any application. I noticed that Dell OSD process and service are running.

Can anyone please help? The support representative suggested that my next step should be to start rolling back the updates that were previously installed, and I'm hesitant to go this route. I think (and may be wrong) that this should be something trivial that I am missing. Thank you!

P.S. I forgot to mention that the OSD button used to work properly prior to yesterday for long time and I had no problem switching inputs.

Our users need more data before they can correctly troubleshoot. Reply with the specific Dell Inspiron Desktop model.

@DELL-ChrisM2  - thank you for the quick response! My Dell AIO model is "Dell 27 All-in-One EC27250". Also, I forgot to mention - as part of the diagnostic process:

1) I ran all the hardware diagnostic tests by Dell SupportAssist; all tests passed

2) I logged into BIOS to make sure that the OSD is enabled; it is enabled

Thanks again for your help!

@DELL-ChrisM2 - thanks. I already did this yesterday, and have spent considerable time on chat with a Dell representative. The issue remains unsolved, and the best suggestion I have received is to start rolling back the updates that were installed. I hope that I can find a better solution on this forum. My suspicion is that the OSD application that I was told to install by the Dell representative does not work properly or needs additional configuration, but I may be wrong.

I’m experiencing the same issues you’ve described, although I’m using the 24" EC24250 model. Everything was working fine before I applied the updates, but as it was a new device, I went ahead and installed the full set of updates. Notably, I also installed the Firmware/BIOS update.

I’m inclined to think this update is the cause, as you mentioned the OSD app which wasn’t updated. I did reinstall the OSD app just in case, but it made no difference. Like you, I’m reluctant to roll back the Firmware/BIOS update, particularly as it’s locked within the BIOS.

I’ve also tried disabling and re‑enabling the OSD in the BIOS, but no luck there either. I’m now waiting for a new Firmware/BIOS update in the hope that it resolves the issue.

I’m a little disappointed that Dell’s quality control allowed this to be released to the public. I suspect there are further issues with this version of the Firmware/BIOS, as the USB ports continue to supply power even when the computer is switched off, despite the setting being configured to disable USB power.

Another frustration with this product is the lack of volume control for external devices. You can adjust the volume if you’re using a laptop, but if you connect something like a games console, you’re stuck with the default output level — unless I’m missing something. It seems odd that volume options weren’t included on the physical buttons.

Let’s hope they sort it out soon.

@Alan1ace  - thank you very much for confirming! Yesterday, I've spent quite a bit of time with a DELL support representative, and he guided me to roll back the system to a recovery point prior to the updates. The roll back took over and hour and failed, with an error message that "system restore can't find a file". At this time, my PC is back in the same state as prior to the system restore attempt, and the OSD still is not working. I have the same hope that future BIOS updates will fix the problem, but I'm not too hopeful. One odd thing I see is that the Control Panel has an icon named DELLOSD, but it does not work - the error message is that it is not associated with any application. From what I understand, the installation of the OSD application should have produced a Dell OSD .cpl file, somewhere in the windows\system32 folder, and it did not. As result, even if I have installed the OSD app, and I can see that the OSD process and service are running, there is no way I can configure it via Control Panel.

Like you, I hope Dell will find a way to fix the problem. Meanwhile, instead of using the OSD functionality, I have to use a second monitor - just because the OSD button no longer works. Very frustrating.

The issue is still under investigation. If I get any updates, I will post them.

@DELL-ChrisM2  - thank you for continuing working on this issue. For what it's worth, I have spent (again) a lot of time on chat with a Dell support representative yesterday. He asked me to run diagnostics (again), everything passed. He suggested that I should reinstall Windows, which I declined:

a) this would take me days, to back up all my data, applications, settings, reinstall Windows, and restore/reconfigure everything, and it is not feasible to lose so much time just because just one function/app (OSD) got broken or miscofigured

b) if OSD got broken as result of the last BIOS update, reinstalling Windows will not fix the problem anyway, and I would just waste a lot of time.

I will continue to search for a better and easier solution. So far, I suspect 2 things:

- the OSD application itself - it is running (I can see the OSD service up and running), but the DELLOSD icon in the Control Panel is not functioning (it is not associated with the application), so the app can't be configured.

- I also am puzzled why Display Settings/Advanced Display is showing "DELL AIO" connected to Intel Graphics instead of to NVIDIA. Considering that NVIDIA driver was also updated, this may be a possible cause of OSD not functioning properly.

Thanks again for your help.
