2400 vs. 3000

What is the difference between the Dimension 2400 and 3000? The specs are the same and the price is very similar. Is the only difference the model number?

The 3000 is the replacement for the 2400. They share most specs; the 3000 does support dual-channel RAM, which the 2400 does not.

Neither is intended for anything other than office apps and browsing - both have poor 3D graphics and no AGP slot.

If it's the replacement, why do they still offer the 2400? Thanks for the quick reply.

The 3000 uses the Intel 865 GV chipset, which supports an 800-MHz FSB, HT and dual channel RAM. The 2400 is based on the 845 GV chipset, with a maximum 533-MHz FSB, no HT and no dual channel RAM. So there's a significant difference in performance if you specify a CPU that runs on an 800-MHz FSB in the 3000.
