the Windows software is on a hidden partition on you hard drive along with other software that was installed. i got my XPS a week ago and plan on having Dell send me the install CD for $10. Wish I had noticed it was extra when i bought mine.

You can purchase the OS CD for $10 from Dell, or make a copy as described here:

You can download drivers from Nvidia directly

I agree with atbglenn - download the drivers directly from Nvidia.  At some point, you would check there for an upgrade anyway.

I'm waiting on my new XPS400 - just shipped today.  I gave my Dimension 4400 to my wife and retired my XPS D266 just last week (8 years old and still running fine).

The solution offered in that link doesn't obviously work.  There must be some other way.  Dell accessories doesn't lead to a dell os recovery link.

On that link it has a set of steps and going through them you come to Dell Accessories and the next option is not listed.  I think it's something like Dell recovery OS or something like that.  There are only two options listed and that's neither of them.  There must be some other way to get the final step, but I've about given up spending hours getting "last" steps to work.  I am sure someone can figure it out.  It can't be that hard.

I pasted it below.  It's in #2, step 2)

2. Run the Dell™ OS Recovery Utility

The Dell OS Recovery Utility allows the creation of ONE operating system CD.  This means that you can make one Windows® CD for backup purposes.

NOTE NOTE:  If you have not created your backup CD you should take the time to create the CD and store it in a safe place now.
You will need a blank CD-R disc and a CD-R/W or DVD-R/W drive installed on your Dell computer to complete the steps below.
  1. Click the Start button on your Windows desktop.

  2. Click All Programs, Dell Accessories, and then Dell OS Recovery CD.
    If you have a portable computer, plug in the AC adapter.

  3. Click the OK button.
    The Dell Software License Agreement window appears.

  4. Read the license agreement and then click to select Yes, I accept if you agree to the terms.

  5. Click the Next button.
    A Welcome message appears prompting you to place a blank CD-R disc into your writeable drive.

  6. Place a blank CD-R disc into your writeable drive if you have not already done so and click the Next button.
    The program will create your backup OS Recovery CD.

    NOTENOTE:  The program can take up to 30 minutes to create your backup disc.

    When the backup disc is complete a Congratulations! message appears.

  7. Remove the CD-R disc from the writeable drive and label it Windows Operating System Backup CD.

  8. Click the Finish button.

Congratulations! You have successfully created your Windows operating system backup CD. Store the CD in a safe and easy to find location.

All,

Problem - The Dell OS Recovery CD program fails or isn't installed and I didn't order an operating system (OS) CD at the point of sale.
Solution - You may request that OS CD and any other CDs. Chat or email Dell. Explain your situation to the Dell representative and ask for the CDs.
* CHAT with Dell
* EMAIL Dell
You should request the following:
Operating System CD (part numbers will differ for every system type)
Resource CD (part numbers will differ for every system type)
Backups/Tools CD (part numbers will differ for every system type)
Dell Media Experience CD (Basic G8592, Deluxe U8032)
Cyberlink PowerDVD CD (FC097) (You must have this to view DVDs in Dell Media Experience)
