Bill: That software package sounds interesting, I will have to look into it. Sounds like it would beat using a multi-meter and counting the pulses…

If I were you, I would try the program on your com port in place of the UPS.

If that doesn’t work, you could install a PCI card that will give you another com port. That assumes you have an open slot for the card.

Or you could go the USB/Com adapter.

Any one of these should work without a hitch or require any intervention on your part. Plug and Play combined with PCI steering have pretty well removed all the hair ripping instillations of DOS days.

Yeah, I've used the "count the beep" route and this software is certainly a far cry above those rudimentary devices. It provides complete code reading capability and some ability to reprogram keyless remote entry functions. The package that I bought is only sold by the author and is only for VW and Audi products. Check http://www.ross-tech.com for more info. In his FAQ the author is not enthusiastic about the use of USB<>Serial adapters with this program.

Thanks for he heads up on the PCI upgrade. I didn't realize that these would self configure. Think I'll order one, as I do have a slot open.

Bill: Thanks for the link - don't have a VW or Audi...
