Opening the Control Panel ,administrative tools , applications and Iam finding everyday a couple of red X with the message of system errors and application problems ,one that really bothers me is the 0x00000000,? Other prob is niether Windows Update or Microsoft Update will run they attempt to start and then they fail ? I have performed the SFC /scannow in a cmd box and I still recieve errors in the applications section of the control panels adinnistrative tools apps section ? Yesterday I was able to get Microsoft Update to download a 10M.B. update however installation failed .It was a security patch for I.E. 7.0 and replacement of another update that failed on installation #KB902400 ? I tried running the CHKDSK by right clicking on drive C in My Computer clicking on properties and then Tools and put a check mark in check now and automaticially fix errors. It said the check disk would run on startup after I reboot ,however when I restarted my system the Check Disk utility did not run ! Oddly I do not have alot of problems when using the comnputer ? Now and then it will shut down a program on me for no apparent reason ,I recieve the "app must now close" happens to most in any of my office suite apps ,which is rather a pain ,becasue sometimes I will have several paragraphs typed up in Microsoft Word ,and will lose all the work ,and Iam no fast typer so it takes me along time to redo ,and I had it do this to me 3-4 times B/4 I can complete a task . I have already tired uninstalling the entire suite and reinstalling it, same thing still happens ? One error I worte down from the applications in the control panel is gacutil.exe corrupt ,bad file 1.0.3705.0 this is one of many ,I also have listings with the red X naming numerous .dll files that are not found ? Here is a copy of my Boot.ini file if that would show anyone who understands all this mess >

It seems since I've had this PC with WinXP ,I have had one error after another ,spend more time trobleshooting erorrs then I ever had on my old P3 750MHz running Windows Me ? Everyone use to tell me WinMe was the worst O/S released by Microsoft ,I may be able to make a good argument on that one ,I used Win Me for six years and never had problem after problem like I have had with this system . Perhaps it has something to do with these large hard drives ,my P3 had a 30 G.B. hard drive ,my Dell XPS400 has a 250 G.B. hard drive ? Well if anyone has and suggestions besides a fresh re-install of O/S (I have already done that ,was recieving stop error's ) Also whats a normal fragmatation on a 250G.B. h.d. after defragmented it was at 5% fragmented ? I use to get my 30G.B. to a 2% fragmented ! Well thanks in advance to those who reply !!

Hi:

I've been wondering about the same thing. When I check my event log, it's loaded with warnings and errors, all related to 'Standby Performance Monitoring' and 'Boot Performance Monitoring'. And yet the computer seems to run fine, and none of those warnings or errors actually show up on the desktop. I don't get it ... Does anyone know what these warnings and errors are about?

Thanks!

I don't have the slightest clue, but what I would do in your situations is to back up ALL of your documents (music, pics, and any files you don't want to lose), and then REFORMAT the C: Drive completely, a couple of times, and REINSTALL a clean fresh install of XP. Maybe try to use someone else's XP install disc if anything, and just use your own Product Key. Also, make sure that you get Service Pack 1, 2, and 3 (don't know if there is a 3rd one though, but definitely get the first 2)

That's my opinion.
