Can I upgrade to a EVGA e-GeForce™ 8800 GTX

I have a XPS 400 with a 7900gs now, but I want to upgrade to the 8800gtx 768 .  Do I need to upgrade my Powersupply?  I've been reading the forums and I see post that you do and post that you don't.  I still have the factory PS which I belive is 375.  If I do, what are some suggestions on a PS to purchase?

it will work fine with that psu..just make sure that you get the 2nd pci-e 6 pin adapter as it needs two of them and the 400/410 only have 1

Thanks for responding, I went ahead and purchased the  adapter from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812201004  I also went ahead and purchased video card.    Thanks again for your help.

I haven't recieved the card yet.  When I ordered it, the site said it was in stock.  I got a call 2 days later telling me its on back order.  If it doesn't ship by friday Im canceling it and just going directly to the store to buy it.

Well I canceled the online order for my card.  I went to Micro Center on Saturdayand picked it up the 8800gtx for $519.  I knew this was a big card, but  man I didn't think it was this big.  The cool thing is it fits perfectly.  There is less than a 1/4 inch to spare from the cpu duct and the card.  I had to use one of the two power splitters that came with the card,  I already has one PCI Express hook up, so the one that came with the card takes 2 molex connections to make one PCI Express hook up.  So far I played Microsoft Flight Simulator X,  I notice a huge difference.  I still can put it on full settings,  I plan on picking up Supreme Commander this weekend.  I took pics of the install process.  If anyone is interested let me know and I will upload them.

I just ordered the 24" monitor, so the step-up will have to wait a bit :smileywink:

hehe well i guess you still have a few months till the step-up expires, hope the next set of dx 10 comes out by then :) hopefully the same power requirements as the gtx/gts, as now it seems its a green light for us xps 400/410 users!

dotmatrix2096,

Many thanks for the pics. I've been asking myself for a couple of weeks if the 8800 GTX will fit in my Dimension 9150 (which I believe is the same case that the XPS 400?).

Do you experienced problem with the cooling of the card since its fan is more than half blocked by the CPU heatsink?

Also, I fear that the hot air will be trapped below the graphic card since she is very big and there's not a lot of space for the hot air to rise up in the case and be evacuated by the power supply's fan. I'm thinking of installing a slot Blower (antec cyclone blower) below the graphic card to exhaust the hot air.

So, did you have any issues with the heat?
