COM PORT 1 NOT AVAILABLE

Hi! My name is Jonathan, I'm in U.S. Navy and stationed in the Middle East. We are having problems with our COM Port. When we use our scan gun which is plugged in com port 1, we get an error message that says, "cannot read com port."

There is little to ZERO information as to which model Dell you refer nor what OS version nor what Service Tag/ Serial Number of the system you have.

Without Basic information there is not a chance of getting help.

Your System Came with Windows XP originally.

What service packs do you have.

Did you patch the Registry for ISA to PCI IRQ Routing if SP2,SP3,SP4 for WIN2000.

The most likely problem is misconfiguration or Add in cards that INTERFERE with 3F8 IRQ4
or 2F8 IRQ3.

Com Ports can be set to AUTO or COM1 COM2 in Bios or DISABLED.

Both software and hardware can be misconfigured.
