No, it isn't normal, but the bad news is that the problem has nothing to do with your PC. The problem has everything to do with HP and its crummy 610/612CL drivers.

I bought my Dimension last X-Mas and got a free 610CL with it. Fortunately, I was too lazy to unpack it at first, and continued to use my old Laserjet 4L. So, I didn't see any evidence of slow down while printing; however, when I connect the 610CL, your problem suddenly materialized. I later learned from postings in this and other forums that the problem was with HP's crummy drivers. I've checked HP's and Dell's support sites a number of times for updated drivers and, unfortunately, none have been issued.

This printer is so cheap, as evidenced by Dell's willingness to give it away, that HP has little interest in supporting it.

I wish there was a resolution, but there isn't other than to buy a new printer. At least you now know that there's nothing wrong with your PC.

Happy holidays, Don
