I'm having the same exact problem with my Dimension E520.

The yellow light signifies a power problem.  Power utilities are divided between power supply and motherboard.  If your warranty is still active, contact tech support.

If not, it's almost a tossup.  PS is cheaper than MB, but MB fails more often.  Whether the light blinks or not is supposed to narrow it down, but it's wrong 40% of the time.  Remove all plug-ins, see if that changes anything.  If not, it's still a tossup, unless you have a known-good power supply to substitute.

What is the reading of the power button LED, green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber?
What is the sequence of the diagnostic LEDs at the front panel of the case?

This is Dell's D-5100 troubleshooting guide,

Have you opened the case and checked all the data, power cables, memory and video card [if installed] by removing and reseating them, in case they were dislodged during shipping.  Check the voltage toggle switch is set to the correct voltage,

If the above does not correct the problem, then as this a new system, I would recommend that you call Dell ASAP, you have only 21 days from the packing slip/invoice date to request a replacement system.

In my case I get a solid amber light. Nothing shows up in the LED's on the front panel.
No monitor, CD, modem or HD.

I did try this

It didn't matter, it still didn't work.

Not too bad, I just took the system out of the box yesterday..:smileymad:

Shesagordie,

Yes, I pulled all cables/ribbons, except the power cable to the motherboard, memory & modem, then fired up the system and still got a solid amber light on the power button..

I guess that's the bad part of a Christmas gift, the system was shipped on 12/15 and sat till the 25th..
I'll call in the morning and hopefully I won't get the run around..

It's a shame, I own a Inspiron 9400/E1705 and a Dimension 8300. To this day I haven't had a single problem with either system. I guess sooner or later you have to get a bad egg..:smileyindifferent:

Since my warranty is over I have taken the unit to a friend of mine. He is a system admin and apparently he built the system he operates at work and has added some Dell units into the mix there too. If he finds out what the problem is and is able to fix it I will post back here and let you all know how things turned out.

Hasta,

Try reseating the memory and the video card, then check the motherboard power and data connections.

Great, I'm happy to hear that, did you get a case number from the Techie? You should also, receive an eMail from Dell to conform this.

Yes, they gave me a case # and a dispatch reference #, but as of this reply I didn't receive a email from Dell yet..

As long as you have the case and dispatch reference numbers, then you should fine, enjoy your new system when arrives.
