cpu sticking to heatsink

does anyone know if dell uses superglue for thermal grease because this is the second time the cpu has come out with the heatsink and this time like 100 of the cpu's pins have been bent and should prove a challenge to get back in its socket

Normally, with any CPU heatsink it has to be "hot" in order to get the heatsink off.  I replaced a Heatsink/fan assembly for a customer on a P4 (not a Dell - standard ATX compatible unit) and had to remove the heatsink and CPU as one unit and then take a hair drier and heat it to remove the heatsink (and it was still a hassle and I had to use a putty knife to "help it along".

the stock intel thermal pad is designed to "melt" to the processor,  so be careful when removing.     You should be able to pop it off pretty easy with a razor blade.

just wondering, why are you taking it out and reinstalling? sounds like youve done this multiple times also.

ya it wasnt too freindly to the idea of coming off but it "warmed" up to the idea with some help from a soldiering torch that i used to heat the heatsink although i never actually touched the heatsink with the flame so as to prevent it from possibly warping

yes i have done this a few times mostly to make sure nothing it happening under the heatsink that isnt wanted. the thermal pad most certaintly didnt "melt" rather it had some sort of adhesive on its surface along with some on the cpu's surface and i can tell you no one here put it there and there was also like 3 trickles of what i guess was also adhhesive appearing to come from the area of the pad any idea about that
