Dell XPS 8300 Sound

I have recently purchased a Dell XPS 8300 with the integrated sound card on the MotherBoard. I have hooked up my old Altec Lansing speakers to it - 4 speakers and 1 subwoofer - which I had as part of my old computer. I've downloaded a driver from Realtek - Realtek HD Audio Manager which works, however unlike with my old computer (2002 vintage) I can't control the sound between the front to back speakers (it will let me control the balance), nor bass nor treble. Is there another driver I should be using to get these controls back?

Hi Scsmith6,

I don't believe the Realtek application controls front/back, but most surround sound speakers have controls for this. My Klipsch set does.

On the bass and treble, I can show you below where the equalizer is on the Realtek application.

Thank you for the equalizer info - I found that. So now I want to see if there is an application that will control front and back. My ancient (2002) Altec Lansing speakers do not have controls for this, unfortunately. In my old computer, the balance and fader controls were both in the Turtle Beach/Santa Cruz software. I guess that's another option - taking the old sound card and putting it in the 8300, and then installing the old software?

And my rear speakers, like the front speakers are all plugged into the subwoofer. The room correction tab says that you must be under 5.1 or 7.1 speaker mode to use it - I'm using Quadrophonic. I dont' get any sound when I try to use 5.1 or 7.1 - I think you have to be using the Digital sound for that ie. HDMI or Digital. Even if I'm not using the Turtle Beach/Santa Cruz sound card, can I use the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz driver? Or do I have to install the sound card from my Dell 8200? Thanks for all your help by the way.

Ok, looking again, it appears the room correction tab could be used to adjust front/rear. But I believe it only works if your rear speakers are plugged into the rear speakers port on the sound card. I'm actually only using the front speakers from my Klipsch 4.1 system, so I have not played with this.

My old Dell Dimension 4100 had a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Best sound card ever. If you can find Windows 7 drivers, there's no reason you could not use it.

The XP driver will not work. I just checked the support site and they say the card will not work under Windows 7.
