Display Issues, colors, shadows

I have a Dimension system 936 PIII with 512 MBit RAM, 1701FP monitor, NVIDIA card, also GeForce 2(?).  Running Windows XP Prof sional.  This problem appeared suddenly. The colors are off on the monitor, reds are going toward flourescent.  There are gray shadows across the screen from every line of information or display item.  The display almost seems fuzzy at least it is difficult for me to read.  No virus issues.  I have downloaded and installed all of the recommended Microsoft patches for XP including the new Direct  X 9.0.  This has returned the message that a driver has the potential to cause the system to become unstable and there fore it can't be allowed to start.  Thoughts, help?  I am now relegated to using my trusty LATITUDE laptop which isn't all bad!  I appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

Thanks,

Hopefully its just a driver issue and not a bad card

Download the latest driver from www.nvidia.com  , then uninstall your Nvidia display driver from add/remove progs, reboot, when into windows cancel the driver wizard and install the driver you downloaded...

You could also try driver cleaner, so there is no conflicts with old driver files..

Good luck

shunney,

Thanks for the information!  I will be trying it tonight!  I'll post something to let you know how it comes out.

Thanks again,

shunney,

I was able to download and install the latest nvidia drivers last night.  Unfortunately, they didn't help the situation.  I guess I kind of suspected the video card to begin with when I swapped monitors and the problem was still there.  I just looked at Best Buy on line and it looks like they have the cards for $60.  Know of any better deals?

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

If you can afford that little bit extra, this card is a great card for your system and good for gaming

shunney, are you still a forum user?

Back in April, you recommended a 128 MBit card from ShenTek.  I bought the card but didn't have time to install it for about 3 months.  I have had it in service for about 6 weeks now and it has failed.  I now have vertical bars with lines in them on my entire screen.  If I reboot the machine, it gets to the point where it looks for the video drivers and stops.  I have reinstalled the card software and the system works until just about the time I start to change my screen resolution and then it just falls apart.  I am going to fall back and look for an OEM card.  The original lasted for over 3 years before it quit.  Am I perhaps doing something wrong?  Everything seems to point to the video card.  May I have your thoughts?

Thanks
