Downloading pictures from Kodak Easy Share Camera to Computer.

I am having problems downloading pictures from my CX 4300 and CX 7430 Kodak Eashshare digital cameras to my computer which is a Dell XP. I have had the CX4300 for almost 2 years now, and I just purchased the CX7430 last July. I used the Kodak Easyshare Software that came with the cameras and have been able to download pictures all the time up until a month ago. My computer does not recognize my camera anymore, it says it found new hardware but can't install it because it can't find it. I have tried everything, uninstalling the software and installing it again from both my CD that came with my camera and also off of the Kodak web page. When I hook my usb cable up to the camera and computer, it doesn't recognize the usb cable. I am beginning to think that it is my computer that is causing the problem. Because I have tried both cameras and I also bought a card reader to try and transfer the pictures but it doesn't work, I get the same message as I do with the cameras. I am hoping there is someone out there who can help me figure this out. My computer does recognize my printer, why doesn't it recognize my cameras. Help!!!!!!!! Sue

Review the following thread and try the steps to see if it helps resolve your problem:

If that doesn't help? Try using a different USB cable.

Where do I find firmware updates?? Thanks for your concern! Suzy

I also tried MRF4700 advice and followed the instructions on the thread you recommended. I found 2 shaded USB cables and uninstalled them and also went to other devices where the yellow question mark is and uninstalled my camera, and something else I had in there. I then installed the Kodak Easy Share Software to start over and after I restarted my machine I got a box that was labeled ALT, and it said cannot run Unicode Version of ATL71.DLL on windows 95, windows98, or windows me. Please install the ANSI version. Does anyone have any idea what this means?? I have gotten this message before. Thanks for everybodies help!! I am still desperate to get my camera working again. I am still having difficulty uploading pictures from my Kodak Easy Share digital camera to my computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software many times, I just tried the generic way again of uninstalling all the usb devices and letting windows XP reinstall them. Windows XP can't reinstall them, they come up in other devices with a yellow question mark next to them. I could upload pictures for 5 months without any problems, why now do I have problems?? I have successfully installed the software without any problems now but still can't upload pictures. The new hardware wizard can't find my camera. Please help me!!! I am lost without my camera. Thank you!! Suzy

Thanks for the information about the firmware, my camera doesn't support getting firmware from the software. And my computer doesn't recognize my usb ports so I can't even use a Card Reader to get my firmware. Anything I put in my usb ports shows up as new hardware, but can't be installed because it can't be found.

I can't help but think that my MacAfee Internet Security 8.0 messed this up for me. At the same time my cameras would no longer upload pictures to my computer, my MacAfee Internet Security wasn't working right either. Internet Explorer kept on freezing up on me, and I couldn't access Netscape 7.2 either. My computer just kept on getting slower and slower. I had to uninstall MacAfee and use an internet security that my internet server offers for free. Now my computer works fine, but I still can't upload pictures from my camera to my computer. I tried installing MacAfee again today in the safe mode and I have done it normally too and it completely freezes up on me, I couldn't access internet explorer or Netscape 7.2. So again I uninstalled it and now it works fine. Not my camera though. My computer doesn't recognize anything from my usb ports except my Lexmark printer.

It sounds like you have a few footprints(residual files) left on your hard drive that are corrupting your system. If you can backup your existing important data on the hard drive, it may be easier and less time consumning to do a reformat and reinstall of the operating system on your computer.

What model Dell computer do you have? Does it have CD burning capability? or do you have a removable media drive(external hard drive, Zip drive, etc.)? I'm assuming that you have photos stored on your hard drive that you wish to keep? These would be lost on reformat of the internal hard drive, unless transferred to another media.

Was your Dell purchased before or after 7/15/2004? Did you receive any CD's with it, from the manufacturer? If you did, one should be the reinstall disc for Windows XP Home Edition.

I have a Dell 4550 which I purchased in January of 2003. It is a Windows XP Home addition, and does have the capability of burning CD's, and I do have a Windows XP CD that came with the computer. I also do have photos on my harddrive. But I am going to order prints of them so I can remove them. Are you thinking I should remove Windows XP and reinstall it again?? If so how do I go about doing that?? And how will it effect my computer? How will it be different after I do this??

Thank you!! Suzy

Basically, what this procedure will do is format and install a fresh copy of Windows XP onto your hard drive.(minus any third party software installed at the factory and barring any unforseen hardware failures)

It should clear up the problem you're having with your camera and will increase your computer's overall performance because it removes or erases any spyware,"cookies", or viruses that may be affecting your computer's performance.

Can you provide a list of the CD's that came with your computer from the factory? This will help to assess what software you will need to install after the XP install.

If you desire, I can provide web-links(w/pictures)and step by step instructions that will enable you to accomplish this procedure.

1) You will need to burn all data that you wish to save to CD.

2) Go to the following site and download all drivers and utilities to CD:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_4550&os=WW1&osl=EN

3) In order to reinstall your operating system, you must configure your computer to boot from a CD drive. Turn on your computer, at Dell Splash screen hit F2? This should take you to a System Setup menu. You are looking for Boot Device, or Boot Order, or something to that effect? Select whichever CD or DVD drive you intend to install the Windows XP CD into?Save changes and exit the menu. Boot back into Windows...at the completion of startup, go to this website and print out these web pages?

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

Post back when you've accomplished these steps? Don't start the procedure. Just, post back when you're ready?
