That post message is displayed after any recoverable error message.
What changes did you make prior to getting this message?
When you were in setup and noticed that your HD & CD-ROM were not recognized, did you notice what was next to IDE Controller ( configures the integrated primary and secondary EIDE controllers and detects the types of drives attached to them )?

- What changes did you make prior to getting this
- message? None. We just noticed it when we turned it on.

I am wondering if I will VOID my warranty if I open up the computer. We have only had it since November so it is still under warranty.

all you want. Dell just doesn't want you to have an "Non-Dell " technician mess with it while it is under warranty. Which is understandable. Those two links are to help you determine whether a call to Dell is in order. If so, call Dell and they will walk you through their troubleshooting protocol that will determine whether a piece of hardware needs to be replaced.
