Fatal Error,while reinstalling win XP
I am trying to reinstall win xp on a dim 8300. when I put in the op sys disk I get a fatal error message
Error:
Installation Failed: D:\1386\asms.Error Message: The device is not ready.
Fatal Error:
One of the componets that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

After it tried to reboot the lights are yel grn yel grn. witch is possible video card. I have reset it and if I hold in the power button to shut down when I restart agin they are all green. then the windows setup will appear. Then it will ask for the windows cd and will say installing win. till it gets to installing devices then the screen will go black.

JackShack and DerTempel give me some more ideas on what to try. I know I,m getting closer. I've gone from fatal error to almost loading the OS disk. I am thinking it has to do with memory. What do ya'll think. (yea down here we say ya'll) I do thank you for your help so far.![]()
