I guess the big question here is - do you have a floppy disk drive on your new computer?

aljl3326,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Did your system come with a Floppy Drive? If not, and your programs are on floppy disk you will need to purchase a floppy drive and the bracket to install it in your computer. To order these parts you can call Dell Spare Parts @ 1-800-372-3355.
If you have a floppy drive and the programs are on floppy disk you have to put the disk in the floppy drive, click on my computer, click on the "A" drive. You then can click on the setup or setup.exe to install. You can also put the floppy disk in the drive and go to start | run and type in Setup.exe.

Do these programs that are on the floppy disk need to be installed, or did you just copy them from folders on another computer? Note that most Windows programs cannot simply be copied from one computer to another, they have to be installed using a setup program. This is because the program will not run unless both its files are copied into the correct location (which may include more than one folder) and necessary paramaters are written to the Windows registry. If you could be more specific about the programs you are trying to install, perhaps we could provide more details on how you can accomplish the task.

To DELL- Jesse,
Sorry I just can't get it to work, I put the floppy in the "A" drive and click my computer, click on "A" drive, but I don't see anything on " setup or setup.exe " I also went to start / run and typed in setup. exe. and a massage comes up telling me to go to my computer to install the progam. I am lost
Thank You, aljl3326

Hi Steve, I wan't to thank you for your responding to my message again, The progams I am trying to copy to my new computer are E-BOOKS from the Newbie Club, they are Windows for Newbies, and Keyborad for Newbies, Lot of there books are free but the ones I have are paid for. I was able to copy the progams to a floppy disk, but when I try to copy them to my new computer they copy to my desk top, and I have to put the disk in the computer every time I want to use the progam. So if there is a way to put them on my computer permanently with useing the floppy disk would be great.
Thank You Again Steve aljl3326

It sounds like you are making a shortcut to the program on your desktop rather than actually copying the files to your hard drive. Right click on one of the icons on for the program on your desktop and select Properties from the drop down menu. Does it say that it is a shortcut? If so, then you need to open Windows Explorer and create a new folder on your C: drive for each of the programs. Then, also in Windows Explorer go to your floppy drive and select the program you want to copy. Then click on Edit > Copy. In Windows Explorer, browse to one of the new folders you just created and click on Edit > Paste. This should copy the program from the floppy disk to the folder on your hard disk. To run the program all you have to do is go to this folder and double click on the program. This will only work if the programs don't actually have to be installed, as I mentioned in my last reply.

Steve, Your last massage did the trick. It works like a charm. I have the progams on my computer and working fine. Thank you for your hlep. I was trying to find out how to do that for along time now and you came up with the anserwer, Tech support from Dell and tech support from HP couldn't tell me and a few others couldn't. Thank you and I will keep your message in my files to use it down the road.
