Check the driver for it,may need to update or reinstall it.

delete it and let Win2K detect and attempt a reinstall of the driver.

Newer drivers can be found via Windows update.....

Thanks Folks. I reinstalled the Intel Ultra ATA Storage drivers off the Dell Resource CD and it all looks ok now.

ok forget that. Just found out that my NEC DVD5800 drive stopped working instead after reinstalling the Intel Ultra ATA storage drivers.

Forced the bios to refresh the PnP information on reboot and, guess what?, I got back to where I started. DVD drive on the Secondary Master works again but the conflict between Primary IDE and Ultra ATA is back. What gives ? Is this an incompability between the Intel 815 chipset and Intel ATA storage driver ?

tubford,
What model is your computer and what version of Windows are you running? Is there an IDE controller card in one of your PCI slots?

I'm running a Dell Dimension 4100. I just replaced the single IBM Deskstar hard drive (which was set as the master on the Primary channel) with 2 Maxtor Ultra Series drives. I have them configured as Master and Slave on the Primary Channel and my DVD drive is on the master of the Secondary channel. I'm running W2K SP4. I haven't added an IDE controller. Thanks.

tubford,
Did this problem just arise after you removed the IBM Deskstar hard drive and replaced it with one of the Maxtor drives? If so, did you install the Intel 815 chipset drivers immediately after installing Windows 2000 and before installing any other device drivers?

yes it occurred after replacing the Deskstar. I copied all files from the Deskstar to the Maxtor and set it up as a boot drive. I also (previously) set up a 2nd Maxtor hard drive on the Primary slave. I reinstalled the 815 chipset when the error appeared. The more I use the system the more I think that windows is incorrectly displaying the information. My computer has never been faster.
