Inspiron One 2305, buzzing

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar issues or have any feedback. I've been on the phone with Dell tech support quite a few times and even had a technician come by to replace the hard drive and internal speakers, but the issue keeps coming back. Basically, the machine boots up with no noise and no issues. Problem is once the monitor display sleeps and I wake it up, there's this annoying buzzing sound coming from the speakers. I've updated all drivers and did everything I can think of. The buzzing noise is constant once it comes on. The only way to stop it is to reboot the machine again. Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks

I have the same problem with my 2305 (only one week old).  I don't know if Dell has a solution.

It's hard to not consider returning the whole thing (bought it at BestBuy).

Looking for any suggestions, ideas.

Did anyone have the problem resolved through Dell?

Scott

not to my knowledge..i think everyone's just sitting tight to see what Dell's next move is...i HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt they're going to do a recall on this machine..

I did find the solution for my computer. NEVER LET YOUR SCREEN GO TO SLEEP OR HIBERNATE MODE! I was sent a new 2305 to replace the buzzing one. The first thing I did when I got the new one set up was to turn off the sleep and hibernate mode. Then one day I forgot and turned on the sleep mode to clean my screen and as soon as I turned the screen back on, the buzzing noise was there. I was very disappointed. I turned the sleep mode to NEVER again turned off my computer, let it rest for 2 hours, turned it back on and the buzzing has never happened again; however, I am now having other technical issues with this computer. I am very disappointed and will be returning the whole thing and getting a standard tower with the same power as this computer. Dell just hasn't done their due diligence on this computer yet.

A Dell tech support representative called me yesterday to check on my problem.  He had apparently read none of the notes on my file, and was quite surprised to hear that the problem had not been resolved.  After a lengthy hold as he checked with "senior technical people," he told me Dell was working on a BIOS update that would be out in the next couple days.  Don't know how reliable this is, but he said to keep an eye on the Dell update website.

Dell tech support called me again today as follow up. I told them it buzzes when I bring it out of sleep mode and about how web pages with a lot of graphics makes it buzz louder, they said they are sending me a replacement computer(brand new). I told them about this forum and they claim they are not familiar with any universal issue and it is computer specific. I asked if they were sending me a refurbished computer and they said no.

I wonder if the computer(doing the buzzing) was a refurbished model? When I entered the service tag on the site over the weekend, it said it wasn't valid because it was purchased outside of the US, which it was not. I ordered it online.

I searched this forum to try to resolve a similar issue with an Inspiron 2310 that I have just bought in the UK. Every time I viewed a video on line or as part of a web page there was severe interference on sound. However, I solved this by adjusting the default format in Realtek audio  manager from 24 bits, 44100 Hz (studio quality) to 24 bits 96000 (studio quality) and all is well. Perhaps it was a different problem but i thought it ws worth posting - just in case.

Hi Nivek1, where exactly do you go to change the settings? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

The top left side of my case often rattles when the fan/hard drive are working.  The case doesn't appear to be firmly secured on the top back side (opposite the INSPIRON ONE label) as it is on the other side.  The vibration is a B or Bb and stops when touched lightly.  Could the case be your issue, as well?

No rattle from the case here, just the electric snappy buzzy sound associated with the Video input, and abated temporarily by switching away from the Dell Inspiron One video input to any of the other options, say "composite", then back to the original.

This is no perfect solution, a pain, and I'm still waiting to hear from Dell on an actual fix.

I got my new 2305 over the holidays.  It's a beautiful machine.  I had only two issues: 1) The video driver was regular resetting until I turned off Dell Stage.  2) The same buzzing problem reported in this thread.  On a fresh boot-up there's no buzzing, but once the display shuts off and is reactivated, there is a low buzzing sound coming from the speakers.

The volume of the buzz has nothing to do with sound settings.  It continues even when speakers are muted.  But the volume does change depending on what is happening on the video display.  I have the same issues as those that have reported louder buzzing with certain games and Excel fields.  Restarting the computer does not stop the noise, but shutting it down completely and turning it back on does stop the noise.  The noise also stops if the computer goes into hibernate mode and is reactivated.

I called Dell about the problem less than 24 hours after getting my new machine.  Two days later a tech came and replaced the speakers.  He couldn't get the frame back on correctly, so now it has a bulge near the on button.  As with others in the thread, replacing the speakers did not solve the problem.

Finally, Dell sent me a new machine, which I received yesterday afternoon.  The first thing I did after getting it started up was to set the monitor to turn off after a couple of minutes.  I had already discovered that the noise only started on my original machine only after the display had been off for at least 30 seconds.  After about a minute, I moved my mouse to turn the monitor back on.  I was very disappointed to hear the familiar buzzing sound.

I could remedy the problem by setting the computer to hibernate at the same interval as it is set to turn off the monitor, but I don't like restarting all of my apps.  I frequently leave things I am working on open for a while.  I am used to setting my computers to never hibernate.  The other option is to set the monitor to never turn off.  That seems awfully wasteful.  Wouldn't it reduce the useful life of the monitor?  Besides, the machine is in an alcove where light bleeds into the bedroom.  I'd rather not have a nightlight that bright (and expensive to run).

It seems that the buzzing is a systemic problem.  I'm going to get on the phone with Dell in a few minutes to see what to do next.  Other than the buzz, I love this machine.  But it is intolerable to get a brand new machine (actually two now) that have this problem right out of the box.

Just a folloow-up to my previous post.  I just got off the phone with Dell.  The tech acknowledged that the company is aware that there is a problem with this series.  They are working on a solution, which could even include an offer to go to a different system.  I was told that I should get a call back five days from now.  We'll see how that turns out.  In the meantime, I guess I'll make sure the display never shuts off.  Then I won't have buzzing problems.

Ok, you've read my posts about my issue, same as everyone else...when I wake it up from sleep the buzzing starts. They send me a new pc and it arrived. I set it up, turned it on, waited for it to go to sleep on its own, woke it up, buzzing!!! No fix!>!>!> WHen I put it to sleep and wake it up, fine, but when it goes to sleep on its own and you wake it up, BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

They will call me in a few days to see how the new one works....can't wait to tell them!

I'm thinking of buying the non-touchscreen product.   Does anyone know if these buzzing problems are occurring with that model too?
