Internal Bluetooth Disabled
I have an XPS410 running Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 32-bit. I have a Dell wireless keyboard & mouse (Bluetooth).
I received a desktop alert that I was missing a Bluetooth driver. I dutifully clicked the link in the alert. This took me to the Broadcom website, Vista Bluetooth driver update page. I downloaded the driver package indicated, saved it, and ran the install.
It then proceeded to uninstall existing Bluetooth drivers; installed the "up-to-date drivers"; then asked to reboot. At this point the mouse and keyboard were no longer functioned. I rebooted.
Once the system came back up ... I had to use a USB keyboard and mouse I fortunately had ... At this point the Bluetooth icon no longer displays in the system tray. I went to Control Panel; Bluetooth Devices to add the Wireless Devices (mouse and keyboard) and nothing appears in the list ... the mouse is in discovery mode ... nothing ... the keyboard is in discovery mode and nothing.
Next I open up the Bluetooth Settings from the Bluetooth Devices menu bar - on the Options tab - the Discovery checkbox is unchecked - I checked it and click the Apply button - A Bluetooth Service Error pops up indicating it is unable to save my selection and that the Bluetooth device is unplugged. I check the COM setting and see there is none. So, I attempt to add a COM port and receive a Bluetooth Service error that the Bluetooth adapter is not plugged in.
How do I resolve this?
And why does a "driver update" cause such problems?
By the way - Broadcom provides NO support and disavows any knowlege or responability for the issue caused by the download.

Hi:
I would download the bluetooth driver for Vista that Dell has on its website for your model here:
If you have the Dell Bluetooth wireless mouse & keyboard, you may want to reinstall the drivers for those too:
Hopefully, that will fix the issue.

Unfortunately, that did not resolve the issue.
The first install gets to a point with a pop-up that states:
Activate Bluetooth using Fn+F2 or Radio On/Off switch
This also has 1 button: Cancell Installation.
I am unclear what Fn is? I have not seen a "Function" key on a keyboard in years. I attempted multiple key combinations with F2 to no avail.
The situation is there appears to be no internal Bluetooth Network Adapter. I I have not been able to find any information on installing / reinstalling one on an XPS 410.
