Internal speaker for beep codes

Hi sorry for the newb question

On Dells is there a jumper etc to disable the internal speaker for the beep codes?

Or am i being an idiot and need to attach some speakers to hear then :)

Be gentle

What is the PC model?

But as far as I know, there is no jumper to disable the 'Beep Codes' speaker on a dell motherboard.

See if the procedure for Microsoft Windows HERE can help.

It's dimension 4600, but I am right in thinking I shouldn't need speakers attached?

There should no need to add a speaker, try using the Windows procedure I posted and see if it makes a difference.

More basic questions:

Why do you think you should be hearing beep codes?

What problem(s) are you having with the system?

Ron basically i think the mobo has had it, but before i tell the customer the good news.

I wanted to make sure that i am not missing anything silly, haven't worked with many Dells

It doesn't boot, no fans, no diagnostic lights, no beep codes. Tested power supply with tester and this is fine.

Tried starting with no ram, taken out cmos battery etc, nothing

Providing there's a 'known' working power supply installed, remove the power cord, hold the power button in for several seconds to discharge the residue power.

Remove all the PCI cards, the video card [if applicable], memory, all peripherals, disconnect the data and power cables to all the drives, check that the front panel cable is connected to motherboard, with nothing else connected to the system, reconnect the power cable and power the system on.

If you do not get any beep codes and/or there is no change in the diagnostic lights, then it would appear that the motherboard has died.

Yep done all this, that why i asked my original question about having to use speakers or if the internal speaker can be disconnected.

I just wanted to make sure that i wasnt missing beep codes because something was disconnected or there was no speakers.

So can i conclude that you 'cannot' disable the internal speakers for the beep codes and i 'don't' need speakers attached?
