Internet Explorer 6 java problems

Downloaded the I.E. 6 update from Microsoft's home page, and now java has been wiped out.
Anybody else had this problem and if so did you find a solution, Microsoft doesn't seem to want to answer my questions.

Thanks Rob

MS has discontinued their "arrangement" with Sun, which is the company behind JAVA technology, effective with IE6.0. It's been pretty well publicized for a while, now. See the link below for more info.

I notice that Java permissions are allowed in Virtual machine in Security in IE 6. Be certain you have not disabled Java scripting. Mine is set to "high safety". My firewall disallows Java scripting in Email. After I installed IE 6, I had to allow cookies on some sites or they would not open.

Keep trying the link. I just tried it again, and it opened fine. There are some resources and workarounds discussed in there which may answer your questions.

Shouldn't hurt anything - that's one of the more forgiving things to install over itself, which has always surprised me. After the trouble I had with the beta version of IE6 and 5.5 SP2, I'll be sticking with 5.5 SP1 till they force me to change. :-0

You might want to see what version you have on there now. 3802 is the most recent available. My two versions of ME on a 4100 and I3800 had earlier releases that required updating. Go to Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information. Expand Internet Explorer, and highlight File Versions. Look for "msjava.dll," and note the version number. Mine is 5.0. 3802.0, with the 3802 being the latest version. You may see something as low as 33xx on yours.

Checked those settings and found them to be the same as yours with the latest version the one installed. I re-installed the VM, some of the sites now will run, but not all. Another case of " I shoulda checked things out a little further" before I downloaded! Oh well, time for sleep, appreciate the help!

I do not know if re-installing the VM made the difference, or if I changed a security setting to the sweet spot, but it now works fine!
