Keyboard with USB Connector

My new keyboard has a USB connector. I got a USB to ps/2 adapter and it does'nt work when plugged in the ps/2 connector. I plug it into my USB in front of my computer and it works fine. But when I boot up I get a black screen saying to click on F2 for the install utility. It does not have to be installed. It works fine. How do I get this screen to stop coming up?Clicking on F2 does nothing and I have to turn it off and on again for it to go away.

Is there a difference if you connect it to a USB in front or back of the computer? I only have one USB and it is in front. My old keyboard was hooked up with the ps/2 connector but when I put it on this keyboard it won't work.

Thanks for your help!

Good thing I read this new thread. I noticed you have a PS/2 adapter, but is it active or passive? You might need the other one besides the one you are trying.

Just responded to your other post. If you have keyboard connected to front USB port that's your problem. Only one rear port will be active until XP loads the USB drivers.

As for the USB>PS/2 issue, my new cordless MX1000 logitech mouse will not work on PS/2 port of Dimension 8400 even with the USB>PS/2 adaptor supplied with the mouse by Logitech. They claimed Dell's PS/2 ports aren't fully standard and some new hardware won't work on that port (my old cordless logitech mouse did). Dell's response: "just use USB".

Hi Ron,

Thanks! My keyboard works fine with it connected to a front USB. I just want to get that black screen off. The instructions with the keyboard said they recommend using USB but you can use an adapter. The ps/2 adapter does'nt work.

I also have a new mouse and it came with a ps/2 adapter and it works fine. I don't have any USB ports left in the back of my tower to plug into. That is why I wanted to plug it into a ps/2 port. That is where my old keyboard was plugged in.

The instructions also said there is no installation required with this keyboard. Just plug it in and type. If it was plugged in the back of my tower would that black screen go away?

Thanks again!

They already addressed a similar issue on the forum...I think it might matter if you have an active or passive adapter.

I Plugged my keyboard in the USB on back of the tower and it works. I bought a USB hub to hook my printer up to and that does'nt work.

I tried to get into my BIOS and see if the USB settings are turned on and the two screens are half off my Monitor screen so I can't click on anything. My mouse does'nt work on that screen.I tried to click on the Esc button on my keyboard and that did'nt get rid of it so I had to shut down and restart.

Can you tell me why only half of the BIOS screen is visable? I noticed when Windows loads it is only part on my screen.

Thanks.

I know nothing about the BIOS unfortuneately...You would have to post in the BIOS section of the forum. Sorry.

Ron,

I connected my keyboard in back of my tower with the USB connector and it works fine. I did'nt have to do anything. My screen said new hardware installed.

The problem is getting into the BIOS. Since it is off the screen and can't read any of the things to click on.

Thanks again.

Sounds like your video card and/or monitor aren't configured correctly if things are extending off screen. Get to the desktop and set the monitor to a higher resolution, then reboot and go into BIOS setup.

Mice typically don't work in BIOS setup. You have to use the keyboard. And it sounds like you still don't have the keyboard connected to the USB port that's active before XP loads the USB drivers. You're going to have to try all rear USB ports until you find the one where the keyboard works in BIOS setup.
