Hi Alfandbenny,
What is the model number and form factor of your Optiplex?

Hi Osprey,
Thanks for your response: OptiPlex 990 mini tower.
Thanks,

It appears the max is 25W. Since you have the mini tower, you have the option to upgrade the power supply.

Thanks for getting back to me.
Are you sure this is right? They sell the same OptiPlex 990 MT with a 1GB AMD RADEON HD 6670 which I believe has max power consumption of 66W?

That is correct. The HD 6670 is an optional card for the mini tower. However, it is the Dell version not retail so it may be configured differently to work in the system. It has a TDP of 66 watts, but I don't think you could get it to draw over 50 watts at maximum so a retail may work.
I am pretty sure Dell could not configure it to use less than 25 watts under a workload. The mini tower probably does not have the restriction of a 25 watt card so it could use up to a maximum of 75 watts in the PCI Express X16 slot. A 265 watt unit isn't much though.

Thank you. I've just looked at the tech guide:
www.dell.com/.../optiplex-990-tech-guide.pdf
and it reports that the HD 6670 has a maximum power consumption of 68W, so I'm guessing anything below that should be fine. I was looking at NVIDIA Quadro 2000 with maximum power consumption of 62W so I'm assuming that should be fine without upgrading the PSU.

I had a 6570 working in a mini-ITX (Foxconn aftermarket H67) with a 220-watt power supply.

Only The Mini Tower Version of the 990 supports the 6670. So only the 265W power supply with 12VA(17Amps) abd 12VB(9Amps) supports the 6670.
MT supports FH cards DT and SFF only support Low Profile Cards.
