Mouse Clicking Issues

Has anyone else experianced this before? When I'm clicking with my mouse, it's super-sensative or something. I click once but it executes at least 2 clicks no matter how gently I press it. It takes me a few tries to get it where I want it. Sometimes it goes back or forward 2 pages when I'm navigating, sometimes it keeps highlighting words when I'm trying to navigate the little black line when I'm typeing. And when I try to minimize a window sometimes I actually have to fight with it to stay down because it springs back up.

This is no fancy mouse, it's just Dell's basic corded black mouse. The cursor itself has no issues just the left button suddenly got mega-sensative over the last few days, and it's starting to really annoy me...:( Cleaning it didn't help any.

My PC is an XPS 720, it's a year old. Nothing else on my PC is wrong, just the mouse sensativity.

Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Oh yes, I'm on XP Media Center

Open control panel and click on the mouse icon. this will bring up the mouse properties pages. You should find a place where you can adjust the click speed.

Thanks, I just tried that, but making the click speed slower (and Applying) had no effect on that little quirk. Immediately the windows I tried to mimimize went "springy" at even the lowest setting.

Hello,

It sounds like it's time for a new mouse.

Ohhh... Duh, lol, I didn't even think of that. I even have an old white Dell Computer and mouse and it's never done that. Actually, no mice have ever done that to me before, but I guess there is a first time...

I'll just see about getting another. ^^

Have you tried to take the ball out and get all the gunk out from those little wheels ? You would not believe how much junk can get on those things.

OMG... i have been having the SAME ISSUE!!!! It's a glitch... and it's getting annoying... i need to see if i can send in this mouse and get a new one... b/c this double clicking thing started only months after i got it... there's no ball to remove b/c it's got the lazer light... so even blowing it out hasn't helped much.  So don't worry you are not ALONE... i feel your pain!!!!  If i get it fixed i'll let you know... and do the same for me if you could!!!

Thanks!

I have the opposite problem: I click and nothing happens. Clicking 3 or 4 times, or pushing down really hard on the button sometimes works. All our symptoms point to a worn-out mouse, which is why I just came here and ordered a new Wacom. :)

One more thing you can try is taking the mouse-case apart to see if there are any crumbs or other gunk wedged under the flexible top of the casing, prevening the "button" from going all the way down -- or from coming all the way back up, which might cause "multi-clicking." That was my problem last time I had mouse-trouble (not a good idea to eat Cheetos at the computer, for many reasons). It's been three years since then, and I'm afraid it's just "dead," this time.
