Multi-colored bars across the screen
Hello,
I have been having problems with my Dell desktop. It has been freezing at random times, with multi-colored bars appearing on the screen. They either flash or are stationary. The speakers buzz and the only thing I can do to fix it is manually restarting the computer.(holding the power button on the tower itself) At first, it was only when I played games or watched videos. Now it is doing it no matter what I'm doing. This is the computer.

I've read that the monitor could be the problem,so I did what the forum suggested: unplugging the digital signal cable, turning on the monitor, and seeing what the colors were.
The colors I got were white, red, green, and blue.(from top to bottom)
I want to know if it actually is the monitor before I buy another computer.
Thanks.

Can you test this monitor on a different PC or a different monitor on this PC?
If the PC is freezing, I would tend to doubt it's the monitor. Possibly the video card or a memory issue, or maybe just a video card driver issue...
Reboot and press F12 before Windows starts to load. Go to Utilities partition and run the hardware tests, including video and RAM. Copy down error messages -if any.
If no error messages, power off and unplug. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Open case and carefully reseat RAM modules and all PCI cards in their slots. Used canned air to blow out the dust bunnies. Close the case and boot PC and see if that helped.
