My Computer ICON

Does anyone know what might have caused my "My Computer" Icon on the desk top quit functioning? When activated, it will search and search and search.....
From Explorer "My Computer" it will eventually display all the drives like it should. I need to hit Refresh to make it work though.
I'm going to blame major struggles with Roxio EZCD for this! Couldn't have been me!! Nero 5.5 !

Looks like your My Computer icon is corrupt.

Make a right mouse click on your Start button and choose explore.

On the left hand side you will see My Computer listed.
Right click on the My Computer icon and choose make shortcut. Choose desktop as your destination.

If that icon works, delete the original My Computer icon.

Thanks Joanne,

I've tried that several times but repeated to make sure. Still hangs up for 2 to 3 minutes?? Any other thoughts?

I had a similar problem, where both MY COMPUTER and EXPLORER would hang and appear to be endlessly searching for files. Then the system would hang up, and a CTRL-ALT-DEL wouldn't even bring it out. After contacting Dell support, they advised that I reload Windows (2000). Everthing worked fine upon reload, until I loaded Norton Antivirus 2002. Then the problem occurred again. I have since deleted Norton and have not had the problem since. I have been trying to find a patch for Norton, but to no avail.

I am thinking of switching back to McAfee Virusscan - I never had this kind of problem with that program.

Hope this helps!
