No sound. IDT high definition audio codec problem.

Hello.
my system is DIMENSION 9200/XPS 410
i've just installed windows xp sp3 and noticed that there's no sound. i went to the device manager and saw this:

uninstalled the driver, rebooted the pc. on startup a "found new hardware wizard" popped up and i used recommendet automatic settings for it to find the required driver. it did, the installation went on, saw a dos screen with "enabling audio device.." written and then it crashed with an error:

then i tried doing the same a few times. went to dell website, downloaded chipset driver for my system, installed it, did a reboot, installed the audio drivers shown for my system in the dell website. PC reboot - nothing. Still no sound, the same problem with IDT high definition audio codec remains.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problem that others here have mentioned.

Luckily I keep images that I make every few months or so.

Baku (google it) will enable you to export all drivers (ms and non-ms) from your machine to a folder that you can then also recover from.

I suggest you use Baku for this purpose whenever you are about to change a driver that you know there are issues for.

I have not found a way to update the IDT Drivers, or reinstall them from the image I have. Any time i try and install the drivers XP will fail the IDT Device and no sound is the result.

I am scouring the web and using trial and error to try and get to the bottom of this one - but so far no luck.

I have even taken newer IDT drivers and added the device description for the part in this Dell Inspiron N5050 into the INF file for the device driver, which enables any IDT driver to install - but then i get code 10(general driver issue) or 1(incorrect driver config) on the device install.

I will keep trying and bear in mind this thread exists and fingers-crossed be back here with a solution that worked for me.

Ok, I have found a solution to the problem for my system. I am using a Dell Inspiron N 5050. WinXP Pro sp3.

The IDT drivers that worked for me can be found here:

Let me know how you get on...

I have a dell inspirion 6400 model MM061 with windows XP professional( i upgraded). Was using Nimbuzz to make an international call and it was acting up because the other party could not hear me.I also have a microsoft lifeca VX-800 camera that I use for speakers.I am not computer savy at all.I have been using SigmaTel Audio speaker and I got the whole program removed. That was the greatest mistake I have made in a long time.I woke up at 730 am to work on a late graduate school paper and its now 628pm and I just got the problem fixed.I spend the whole day looking everywhere. This IDT High Definition audio codec could not load right to matter what I did.

I followed on a link here and downloaded the SIGMATEL STAC92XX C-MAJOR CODEC from dell.com and it works flawlessly. Thanks and need to work on my paper now:)

go to my computer and search all files and folders - in Local C drive - search "IDT" - delete all files.

Sigmatel drivers are located:

www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

done.

I have a sound problem with my inspiron 1545. W7 OS. IDT High Definition Audio CODEC - driver issue

The error in device manager is:

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

I have tried to update / uninstall driver this did not work

Tried a restore but I can only restore to the day after the issue started??

Any help would be much appreciated - thanks :)

This did the job, thanks very much!

Note that this driver is not the one Dell provides using their automated support applet. That driver for my system (Dimension E5120) failed miserably and I've been searching for the right one for a week.

The default driver that Windows XP installed during an OS reinstall also failed miserably.

Oops - forgot to note that the driver that worked for me is the one posted by gravitron2k on 9-26-2012.
