nv4_disp error

nv4_disp error message. BSOD while  viewing news video online. I've seen a number of posts on this topic. However, there  seems to be a wide range of views as to the cause. Any help would be appreciated.

Grab the latest driver from the nvidia site for your video card. Uninstall the current driver in Device Manager. Reboot and install the new driver. Turn off antiviral software during actual install (not during the download). Reboot after the install and make sure antiviral software is active again.

Ron: Thanks for the  suggestion. I'll try it. So far it's only  happened  once. But, I'd like to get it fixed before it gets worse.

Currently have McAfee VirusScan v10. Started with v8 on this system and trouble-free. Don't use their firewall or any of their other stuff.

Why are you asking?

I'm not currently using any antivirus software. I don't like Norton and don't trust lots of the other stuff.

No antiviral software? That's just begging for trouble! Everybody has their own favorite antiviral software. And for everyone who loves one package, there's somebody who hates it. None of them is perfect, but you gotta have something.

I've seen favorable posts on these forums about AVG. It's free so you might
consider that one. And if you're unhappy with it, at least you haven't invested any money. Also search around on the net for discount coupons on the others. I was able to pick up McAfee v10 for $45 at Amazon last year with 2 mail-in rebates totalling $45, and since Amazon didn't charge shipping, it was free, including 1 yr of updates.

I hope you're running a firewall! I use free ZoneAlarm which is a lot better than the one built into XP.
