I did a dual Xeon processor upgrade in my Precision 530 years ago. I bought the heat sink and CPU clip from the Dell spare parts division (Luckily my 530 shipped with the 2nd CPU fan installed) Then, I bought a used Xeon processor off eBay.

Important!!!! Be sure the CPUs have the same Stepping code (printed on the CPU). If you want to try and mix stepping codes, in a dual CPU installation, you have to refer to the Intel website and look for a document for supported mixed steppings on multi-CPU installations.

E.g. The stepping code on both of my Xeon processors is SL5Z8

One more thing is that if you buy the CPU and parts from Dell they will support you better and may add it you the system warranty.

I have been told the retail Intel heatsink is the same basic type as in the 490 in height and girth.
