Precision M50 CPU Upgrade Question,PLEASE HELP!!!!
I have a Precision M50 (P4 1.8 GHz),I would like to upgrade the processor to a P4 2.6 GHz.
Is the M50's processor soldered on or is it similar to a desktop's processor?
Is it easy enough to replace?
Where can I get a processor for a notebook?
Does anybody have a link or a technical layout / diagram of the Dell M50 motherboard?
Thanks in advance for any help,as the Dell website is next to useless for information concerning this.

Hello,
The Precision M50 processor is not soldered on. The processor is a mobile CPU, not a desktop CPU. I would suspect the desktop CPU would run hotter in a laptop than a mobile cpu, especially at higher Ghz. If you get a desktop CPU to work in your M50, please let me know.
The processor is easy to replace (you only need to take out the 4 keyboard screws, the rest you can snap on/off). You may feel nervous the first time opening up your laptop. Precision M50 documentation located at: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/wsm50/
Try pricegrabber or pricewatch or google to find a 2.6Ghz mobile processor. Just search for BXM80532GC2600D or SL6WZ.
