Printer prints message: PCL6 ERROR - FALSE instead of document

I was in the middle of printing some word documents when the printer started acting funny. Sometimes the print icon comes up on the system tray and the printer light blinks then the icon disappears and the light stops blinking - no print come out. Other times it acts like it's going to print but it prints a message that reads like:

PCL6 ERROR - FALSE

POSITION: 0x77f (1919)

SYSTEM: WSIM/xi_pa_sim

LINE: 249

VERSION: QPDL 1.12 04-02-2002

I have restarted the computer several times. The computer is a Dimension L700cx. The printer a Samsung ML-1430.

HELP! I need to send out some marketing letters!

QueenDi,

Sounds like you could have a loose printer connection, Check your Parallel, or USB cable connections. If that dosent help you may have a printer problem. See if your printer Mfg has a web site you can go to for help.

My printer is a Samsung ML-1430 conncected to a parrallel port. Samsung is not much help. They say I need to connect to a USB port.
What I believe caused the problem was that I was sending multiple print commands from the desktop (Windows ME) folder without opening the document. I was choosing the files directly from the folder on the desktop and right-clicking the mouse button to choose Print. I have done this before, but this time I was selecting many more documents than before. The printer printed a few just fine, then stopped printing. I then selected print again and got the error message:

PCL6 ERROR - FALSE
SYSTEM:    WSIM/xl_pa_sim
LINE:          249
VERSION:   QPDL 1.13 04-01-2002

I have turned the printer off and on. I tried printing from another program. I have re-started the computer several times. I have downloaded the latest driver and installed it. I have unplugged the printer, uninstalled the driver, restarted the computer, let it sit idle for the night, re-installed the driver, plugged in the printer and restarted the computer. It still prints the above message instead of a document.

Please help.

Sorry, I see you are using the parallel port. Is your printer a parallel printer, or a USB, or Both, and do you have a USB card in your system.

If it is a parallel, the control panel delete and add back may help, also make sure your parallel cable is connected securely to the printer, and the clips are fasened.

If it is a USB printer, you will need a USB cable for the USB port.

QueenDi,

Try going to your control panel, choose printers, and select your printer. Delete the printer, and then add it back with the add printer command. Are you using a USB 1.1 or 2.0. It may be your USB driver instead of the print drivers.

I'm not Familiar with the Samsung printers. If the above dosen't help, maybe some other forum member has had a similar problem with your type printer and can help.

I have uninstalled the driver, downloaded the latest from Samsung and installed it. No Help!!!!!

I do have a USB card, but I don't think the printer is USB compatible.

Here is the specs for your printer. It says it supports both parallel and USB. Also, your printer is getting a little age on it, and is no longer supported by Samsung. You could try using the USB port instead of the Parallel port and see if that helps. If not, you may want to consider replacing it with a newer model.

In the control panel, Printer's option you are not uninstalling the printer if you delete it from the printers list. Removing it and adding it back to the list will sometimes clear the printer channel.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, hopefully someone else will see your thread and be able to offer a little more help.

Good luck,
