Problem with MIDIDEF.EXE Error

I have a Dimension E510 desktop and everytime I boot up I get a MIDIDEF.EXE Application error. It tells me to click ok to terminate the application. How do I solve this issue?

Hello,

The Creative 'software' is not required to have sound.

Only the drivers are required, and uninstalling the un-needed software will not remove the drivers.

Hello,

That error is caused by the Creative audio software.

:emotion-55:  I suggest that you use,'add/remove software' and uninstall it. :emotion-55:

Hello again,

Do a search of your system for the file mididef.exe and tell us the folder it is in.

Also, you can run MSCONFIG and look at the startup tab for any mention of the above file, or anything listing creative. Let us know what you find.

BTW, does your sound still work?

Darrell

According to this site the file is installed as part of the driver.

Davet50,

You seem to be correct.

I have spent the last hour with my friend Google. No one seems to know much of anything about the file in question at all, other than being from creative. The creative site does not even have a reference to the file in it's data base.

No harm and no foul with the OP uninstalling the creative software.

If the OP is running XP, then an update for his sound card is here that could fix the error.

If he is running Vista 32bit there are no audio downloads at all for creative.

Don't you just love it when you have to go on a scavenger hunt to find out this kind of info. Gotta love the net though in cases like this. :emotion-2:

The file is for and Audigy sound card to which I don not believe Creative in their all knowing wisdom decided not to write driver for Vista for and just let M$ carry the load.

I totally agree that with the complete unistall of the drivers, running Drive Sweeper to clean out the leftovers and doing a new reinstall.

I think I solved the issue. I found the file and deleted it. So far, so good. Thanks.
