jbeechuk,
Navapw.exe is Norton Auto Protect
spoolsv.exe- is print Spooler
LEXCES.EXE- I'm Guessing you have a Lexmark printer?
svchost-"generic host process name for services that run from dynamic link libraries"
csrss.exe- part of your OperatinfgSystem
I would not worry about any of these running, you need them all. 25 processes running is not uncommon, I really do not understand the exact reasons but XP, and NT or 2000, can run all these Processes in the back ground and it is OK. Sorry I can not give you all the tech. reason why this works. I have read the explaination somewhere in this Forum, but I do not know exactly where. It was posted by Denny Denham.

ok..here's the deal...in an XP environment...when you use MSCONFIG...you can click on disable all button and system will function fine....it justs clears the startup and you will have to start some programs manually..(ie) all programs list....for 98,ME all you need to have is scanregistry, systemtray, pchealth(me only), and the 2 load power profiles. you can uncheck all others...the nav program is norton...if you don't keep that in startup just remember to start it manually for protection....simple as that
Try this. Set all your services to manual. (except windows sound) Reboot, it will be slow because your system will be turning on the services that it needs. Use your computer as you normally do. Then check out the services again. The ones running, set to auto. The other ones just leave at manual or disable.

I think what you want are the services you can turn off or run manually. Go here

Your service are in the Control Panel> Administrative Tools.
