Welcome to the forums! Definitely doesn't sound good.

First, is this a RAID-1 or a RAID-0 setup?
Second, even if it's a glitch, take it seriously, and make sure you make a back-up of any critical files.
Third, I suggest you run the Dell Diagnostics to see if they give any more specific an answer. Assuming you haven't changed partitions from the factory, if you hit F12 during the BIOS load screen, you should have an option to run the Dell Diagnostics. You should also be able to skip the larger set of tests and do just the hard drive related tests.

the first thing i would check, is go into the setup configuration, and make sure your computer is set to raid-enabled mode

1.enter system setup
2. press the up and down arrow keys to highlight hard drive operation
3. press the up and down arrow keys to highlight sata operaton
4. press the left and right arrow keys to highlight RAID ON
5. press the left and right arrow keys to highlight SAVE/EXIT

also, when your computer boots,,,press the ctrl - I keys, and see what it says about your array.

i found a solution!! i'll post it below so it may help other users.

its pretty simple, go to the intel matrix storage console (all programs)

go to advanced mode, now you can reset the drives

thx for the help cademetz and ronss!

Hi there!

I'm having the same problem with my XPS 420
But I can't find out where in the Intel Matrix Storage Console I should reset the hard drives...

When I right-click on one of the drives in advanced mode, the only thing I can do (directly translated from dutch): Mark as normal.
That doesn't look like a reset to me...

Anyone an idea?

thats all you need to do, "mark as normal" or "markeer als normaal" (dutch).
it wil reset and when you reboot the error will be gone, the system should run stable again.

make sure you run the diagnostic hardrive test first, to make sure there are no other errors present.

I had the same thing, the pc won't go further than the RAID screen at the beginning of your start-up.

My solution here was to press F12 during the Dell screen, choose to do the diagnoctic test and after that restore a previous session of your startup.
Windows will than startup again and you can reset your drives in the matrix console.

Good luck!

yeah i got it working again, thx for reply.
i found the same problem described a couple of times in a german forum.
now i really start loosing my faith in raid 0, but i am lazy, maybe i risk raid 0 for a while instead of setting up everything again.
EDIT: It happed to me again yesterday (16.01.08), so i already heard about another person in a german xps-forum that the support is about to send a technican who is going to change his mainboard. I think i wait until it happens another time, and than i contact the support again, i am really scared about playing russian roulette with my raid 0.
