Rebooting Problem Please Help

On my brother's computer I just put in a Network Adapter so he could connect to my router and have a Internet Connection. After putting it in the PCI slot and putting in the antenna I started the computer. When my brother logged in a tab on the start menu place came up verifying that my brother have a Internet Connection. But, all of a sudden a error came up from AOL COMPANION and the computer froze so I shut off the computer by holding the button for ten seconds. Then, I restarted the computer and a black screen suddenly appeared with selection of SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE WITH NETWORK, SAFE MODE WITH CONSOLE, LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION, and START WINDOWS NORMALLY. I selected normal start and the screen just froze. When I did last known good the screen just went all black. I'm guessing the computer just froze. When I did Safe Mode a bunch of words went across the screen and went down and just stopped. I have also tried doing F5 and none of the selections worked. Please Help as my brother needs his Computer back ASAP.
My brother has a Dell 2400 Home Edition Windows XP.

Did you try removing the new network adapter to see if you can get it to boot?

try doing the safemode with command prompt and type in the following:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe then hit ENTER...it should give you system restore...

that also is a no go as when I select Safe Mode With Command Prompt words also fill the screen and head downwards. Something like Multi(0)RDisk and so on.

totalnoob,
Try clearing NVRAM. Enter the BIOS, turn on num lock, caps lock & scroll lock then press Alt+E, Alt+F, Alt+B. Post back with results.
