scan disk runs automatically at start up

Even after Windows ME is shut down correctly. After a re-boot, a 'thorough' scan disk starts up. There are no viruses and after it runs the scan disk, there are no errors. This just started happening and nothing has been added or changed.

The first thing I would try is this. Go to Windows Update (from your startup menu), select product updates and download a tool called Windows IDE Hard Drive Cache Package. That may solve your problem.
