You don't say which model computer you have, information that could be helpful, but the error seems to be saying that the problem is with the first memory slot.
RAM is same as the chip Dell is selling the 256 MB DDR PC2700 333 MHz. What's weird, Windows won't boot and I can shut power off and try again and it boots........happened tonight and I'm on my system right now. Hate intermittant problems with anything especially my system.
I have the Dimension 4600. I got a Level 2 Cache Failure and a Memory Data Data Bus stress test failure. Error Codes all over the place. Seems to happen after I shut the system down and I've had it on for a while...maybe it doesn't like the heat!
Since you haven't removed the new memory to see if that is what is causing the problem, I can't say if it is just one of the chips or both. Memory that is guaranteed to work on your Dell can be found at www.crucial.com using the memory selector on that site.
Be aware that Dell computers are very picky about memory. For example Kingston Value RAM will not usually work on a Dell. The memory has to be an exact match for your computer. The best way to see if it is compatible, is to remove it and see if the problems you are experiencing go away.

Do things return to normal if you remove the new RAM?

Have not removed it yet--wanted to get opinions on this before openning it up.

Just a question, though. Why only one and not both. Can you suggest different brands that work in Dells. Thanks for all your help, by the way.

Will check it out--both removing RAM and the web site. What a pain!
Thanks for your help.
