A boot disk is used to start your computer with a bare bones operating system, usually MS-DOS. In MS-DOS you can check the integrity of you hard drive, reinstall files that can't be installed when Windows is running, run programs that are compatible with DOS, but won't run under Windows, make repairs created by a virus that has messed up Windows so much that you can't run Windows, and flash your BIOS, which can't be done while Windows is running. In short, a boot disk is usually used for emergency situations to do things that can't be done while Windows is running.
I have a Microsoft Win98 Boot Disk that came with my new computer and aWin98 Startup Disk which I made, I think from the add/delete program. Which one would I use when reinstalling Win98 after a reformat? Thanks in advance.
They should both be the same, the only thing I can think that the one that came with the computer might have Clean 1k.exe on it. I say this because Dell sent me a copy of it and told me to add it to my home made Boot Disk. So maybe they put it on their Boot Disk. Put them in A drive and take a look at them.
