Windows ME can't recognize registry scripts

I have laptop with ME on it, and it's not recognizing a couple registry files I have. I have two .reg files that I need to add to the registry, and they works on my XP computer, but on this computer it says "Cannot import [file]. The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registry files." It's not a problem with the files, because it works on other computers. Can someone help me out with this?
