Windows XP setup will not copy RAID SCSI ctlr driver during setup
I have a Dell Precision 470 with an Adaptec U320 SCSI HostRAID Controller card, configured for striped RAID 0.
During Windows XP Setup, the driver a320raid.sys is found and loaded from the floppy after the F6 option is pressed. Everything else loads and setup goes through the partition recognition, format, etc.
Copying of the Windows files to the c: drive then begins fine. However, when prompted to press for copying the adaptec driver (or to skip), Setup accesses the floppy drive, but says it cannot copy the file a320raid.sys. Retrying gives same result. Naturally, pressing ESC to skip the copy will result in the 0x...7B BSD after setup reboots the machine into Windows XP after finishing copying.
Whats going on?
Thanks,
Mike

Hello,
A few things to look at here.
Are you sure that you have the correct file on the floppy?
Is it possible that the file has become corrupt?
Is the .sys file inside a folder on the floppy or not?

Thanks for the reply...
Yes, it is the right file for this adapter...I downloaded it from the Dell site.
Even if it was the wrong driver, it should have done a simple copy OK...and besides, it did load fine for from the F6 option
I just made the floppy from the download...I dont believe it is corrupt. It copies fine during the initial loading into memory from the floppy during windows setup, after you hit the F6 key to load 3rd party scsi/raid drivers.
No, the .sys file is in the A: root directory with the other driver files for the adapter.

Hello again,
What type install disk are you using?
Is it a Dell reinstall OS CD? And if so, is it the same version as what came installed with the system new?

The CD I'm using is an original Microsoft Windows XP SP3 I just bought. I'm going to dig out the Dell one which was an SP1 I think, but they may have the driver for that adaptec on their image, who knows? I'll post here if that works.
Thanks,
Mike
