XPS 8300, MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, works
Hello,
I have XPS 8300 purchased in 2011. I'm considering to upgrade graphic card to GTX 1050 Ti, but there are some concerns about modern cards not supporting older version of the BIOS (Legacy vs UEFI).
Current system is:
i7 2600, 8GB
Motherboard: Intel 0Y2MRG
Video Card: Radeon HD 6770
PSU: 460W
Is there a way to know if such card will work on my system (PSU can be also upgraded if required, but this is not a main issue)? Most outlets do not allow return for opened boxes...

I ended up buying 1060 and it is working fine:
MSI GEFORCE GTX 1060 6GT
There is no any switch in the card, it just works.

I know this is an old question, I am resurrecting, but I found it while wondering the same thing. I just finished installing a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 Ti 4gb in a Dell XPS 8300. It works great, I saw no switch that had to be flipped. I just popped it in, and it works. The version I bought is the single fan, 1442 overclock low profile version. It.s much smaller than the original card, and does not require the secondary power plug. However, if you do get one that has secondary power, the original card in the dell had a secondary power plug hooked up.
So the short answer is yes, a 1050 Ti works in this computer.

The video card must have the Legacy/UEFI bios switch on the card.
You will need to check with the specific manufacturer of the video card to see pictures of the video card. For example, if EVGA is selling a GTX 1050 Ti, you would search on the EVGA site.

Could anyone who got a modern gpu to work (especially a 1050 ti) share the version of their bios? I'm on A03 and I'm wondering if I'll have to update it to A06.
