XPS 8910, Rear USB 2.0 ports not working?

I have a relatively new Dell XPS 8910 computer, purchased October 2016. I hooked up the Dell USB keyboard and mouse that shipped with my computer to the 2 USB ports on the back of the tower located next to the Ethernet port. Over time, one of the USB ports stopped recognizing my mouse. Then, the other USB port stopped recognizing my keyboard. Now both USB ports do not seem to work. I have to connect my keyboard and mouse to the front of the tower to get them to work. The other 4 USB ports on the back of the tower are taken up by my removable hard drives. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone happen to know what's wrong? Photo attached.

Thanks.

Has anybody tried fully wiping the hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows with all the latest drivers?

Be sure to back up your personal files on external media before wiping the drive.

Yes, I have wiped the C drive and reinstalled clean with no fixing of the problem.

Yes, I have wiped the C drive and reinstalled clean with no fixing of the problem.

Thanks for that update.

It was my understanding that Dell captured a couple of XPS 8910 systems with non-working USB2 ports. They wiped the drives and did a clean install of OS+drivers and the problem was fixed and didn't recur...

Sorry that didn't work for you...

I have two 8910's in my company's inventory. And they are both exhibiting this issue. However, on one of them, none of the usb ports (2.0 and 3.0) on the rear work with any device. I've tried driver updates, driver rollbacks, uninstalled the USB controllers in device manager, different keyboards and mouse, hubs, wipe and clean install the OS, BIOS update, and double checked settings within the BIOS.

So far nothing has worked.

I have same problem, new motherboard in August2017  fixed problem until now Dec11th 2017. New motherboard today, failed and computer would not boot,so previous one fitted. All working but not the USB2.Engineer coming next week with another motherboard, but I am thinking it will fail as well.Seems the Bios is being corrupted on fitting it.Engineer thinks that it can be resolved by removing the time clock battery and reinserting, think this is prob. what they did in August as I remember there was a prob. starting the computer then and it took him ages to sort it out. Seems there is a fault in the motherboard with the Bios?

Geez.....sorry to just now get back to you!

jaxhouse28,

"until recently has worked fine."
* What driver updates or Windows updates did you install prior to it NOT working?

I'm not sure that I recall any particular reason/update that caused it and from what I can tell that is the same experience with all the others who have experienced the same problem.

Not sure, how do I know/update?
* It is a manual process. So if you did it, you would remember. You would have gone to the 8910 driver page, changed the Category to BIOS, then downloaded and installed 1.1.3. Reboot the computer when done.

Bios is running the version 1.1.3

* You would have gone to the 8910 driver page, changed the Category to Chipset, then downloaded and installed Intel Chipset Device Software Driver 10.1.1.13 A03. Reboot the computer when done.

Just did this and rebooted.

* You would have gone to the 8910 driver page, changed the Category to Chipset, then downloaded and installed Intel Management Engine Interface 11.0.0.1178 A00. Reboot the computer when done.

Just did this and rebooted.

Mouse on the USB2 port is still not working but the keyboard is still working plugged into the other rear USB2 port.

My warranty expires in almost two weeks.  How can I make sure that if this issue turns out to be a hardware issue I'll be covered under the warranty?

Thank you!
