XPS600 - two GPUs

Hi,

I have an XPS600 with a single nvidia geforce 7800GTX.

I am looking for another gpu to put into the computer to allow me to use 4 monitors.

If I wanted SLI, I know I'd need another 7800, but as I only need the extra GPU for the extra monitors, does it still have to be another 7800 or can it be a different model?

If it can be a different model, do both cards have to be nVidia or can I mix nvidia and ATI?

Thanks for any answers in advance!

To get 4 monitors, you will need 2 Nvidia graphics cards OF THE SAME TYPE (2 Nvidia 7800 GTX). Also, SLI wont work with more than 1 monitor.

Thanks,

So I have two 7900 GTX cards on order for the two PCI-E slots on my XPS600.

Supposing I want to add support for two more monitors (total 6). I have run out of PCI-E slots and only have PCI slots left. Am I:

a) able to get any nvidia PCI graphics card for the PCI slot?

b) only able to get a 7900GTX PCI version (if this exists - haven't checked yet)?

c) missing any other options available?

d) wasting my time!

Cheers,

Charlie

You could look into a PCI Nvidia card, but it'll be something in the 5000 series or maybe low end 6000 series.

You could also look into a PCIe 1x solution( the XPS 600 has 1 PCIe 1x slot, but you may need to check if it's available on your system), but I haven't seen any Nvidia solutions for that.

Another option would be to look for PCIe 16x videocards that support more than 2 monitors. Matrox is a vendor that offers those type of cards. Those cards will likely be quite a bit more expensive than a 7900GS though.
