56K PCI Data Fax question
I have a Deminsion 4600 and it has a 56K PCI Data Fax board in it. I never have used it, and I need to know if I can just remove it? Is there anything else I would need to do to the computer to take it out? I am uping the video card to a 256 AGP, and adding some memory in hopes that it will be good enough for my daughter to use. I am adding a wireless adapter to it because we have only one phone line in the house and I use it for my new computer. So, the added room would help. I am trying to learn how to fix this computer so taking baby steps. If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.
Is there a order or how exactly should I do these changes? Or a order how to load their CD info? Should I do one change at a time or all together and then restart the computer.
Thank You Again,
Cape Coral, Florida

That fax modem is definitely necessary for your dialup connection--if that's what you have, so leave it alone. It is your dialup connection to the Internet. Fax is an additional feature. A wireless adapter is useless if you still use dialup. Wireless is only for broadband connections with a wireless router and a cable or dsl modem. NOW--if you have dsl Internet connection, you DO have a broadband connection and it has nothing to do with your telephone and you don't have dialup. It uses a different connection in the phone line. Buy a wireless router and both computers will be able to share the Internet connection. If you have dsl, just ignore the fax modem in the computer instead of removing it.
