My Computer doesn't recognize USB drive

Hi:

I am trying to resurrect my Dell Dimension 4600 and I am having a small problem getting the USB ports to assign a drive letter to a Sony 1 GB removable USB drive.   The system recognizes the fact that I have a USB drive in the system but will not assign it a drive letter so I can access it.  It assigns it location zero as a USB mass storage device.

Does anyone know of a new USB driver for this problem?  Might it be that my USB ports are an older version?

Thanks...

uptown8,

Typically the problem you're having is caused by Windows (XP) trying to assign the USB flash drive a letter that's already in use by a network drive. Have a look here. This issue is one that has been posted countless times in the DCF. Please try using the search function to see if there's already an accepted solution to questions you may have before starting a new thread.
