It can't hurt to ask for a new motherboard. Embellish the "capacitor issue" a bit. I would. Dell gives out spare parts fairly easily especially under warranty. The issues with the GX280 motherboards are so well known that they'd probably send you out a new mobo in a heartbeat.
It's an easy swap. At least you'll know if the issues you're having are mobo related. They'll also have your new part out to you in a day or two.
I called Dell and it turned out to be a good call. He sent a heat sink fan, mobo, and HDD. The service guy was less than impressive. He didn't restore it to the level I expected but oh well. How do I get the Express Service Code back on the system?
I have been told that only Dell has these Disc and they don't freely give them out. You have to get a Dell Disc, that will allow you to install the Service Tag # on the motherboard. I have been trying to get my hands on this disc for over 6 months. If you know the source, please let me know.
