Problems with Catalyst Control Center access
I have a Dimension4600 with ATI Radeon 9800 128mb DDR video card. I recently updated my driver to the version ATI 8.162.0, which is working fine, but I have been locked out of access to the Catalyst Control Center with an error message that reads " You do not have permission to change CATALYST control settings. Please contact your administrator for further help." I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and cleansed the hard drive afterwards, separately uninstalled and reinstalled the Control Center, used ATI's fix, lowered my settings on my firewall (Semantec 2005) to allow ATI access on all ports and still I get this message. I cannot access the Wizard andI get a message that it might be due to a runtime error. I ran a system check and got a repeated message that " Your computer has lost the lease to its IP address; the IP address lease for the network card has been denied by the DHCP server". I don't know what to do now. I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have...

PS: I would like to talk to the ATI people, but I do not have the PN or registration # for my video card as it came preinstalled on my computer.

I would remove all Ati Catalyst stuff from add/remove and reinstall the Dell driver. Go here .

Thanks for responding, Chris,
I got tired of seeing that error message so I've already uninstalled the Catalyst Control Center. The driver for the video adapter seems to work fine without it. I have some questions before proceeding with an uninstall: If I reinstall the Dell driver, will I be rolling back to a less evolved version? (I like the 3D graphics with the Catalyst driver.) Does the Dell driver have a control panel? Which do you recommend I use for this: the ATI Uninstaller or the regular Windows Add/Remove tool? What do I have to do to be able to configure my system to accept the upgraded ATI driver after doing this? Knowing these things will really help me get a clearer picture of what I'm dealing with, novice that I am! :)

but i do not do anything to ask to change. the computer behaves as if a request has been made, on bootup, to access the Control Center. as it didnt do that yesterday, i figure i must have (unknownly to me) changed other settings today that resulted in this behavior. can u think of anything that i can do to undo it? thanks
