Problems with Java

My computer has problems displaying web pages with Java features. I am not sure if it is a problem with the IE browser (6.0.2600) or XP (Home) operating system. When I use Netscape, Java features work but I would prefer to use IE. Is anyone experiencing similar problems, and can anyone suggest a fix?

cghbrook,

Netscape may be using a Java plug-in. Have you installed Microsoft Virtual Machine (or Sun's version) to your XP system. If not, download it from here and install it. Unlike the Windows 9X family, XP does not include native Java support.

Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java.

Yes, I have installed MS Virtual Machine, and the Sun Java Console. Many java features on many web sites work on my machine. As an example of one that won't, try http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Oxnard/javaLinks/animation.1km.vis.html This is a site that is important to my work as Flight Manager for a large aerial photography firm. My computer at work uses NT4.0 OS and IE browser. There the page opens instantly to display an animated loop of weather imagery. On my home Dell it won't load at all.

The site worked for me (XP Home, IE 6, MS VM), but not instantly as I'm on dail-up.

Thanks koolhonda, for checking out the site. At least I know it CAN work on an XP IE system. Now, I still wonder why it doesn't on mine...

I tried it and it worked for me as well. If you have a firewall installed (XP firewall, Norton, Zone Alarm etc.) try turning it off and going to the site. If that works you may have to change the settings on your firewall. Also check your advanced settings in Internet Explorer. All of my advanced settings are set to default in Internet Explorer and the site worked just fine.
