Simple question re. installing graphics card

Just got a simple question (well simple for most experienced users anyway). Need help/confirmation on installing a new graphics card. I have a nvidia 64MB card in my new Dimension 4600 and friend of my gave me his FX 5200. Do I just replaced the cards and install drivers? Or do I need to uninstall the nvidia drivers/software before doing this?

Also does it matter which drivers to install - the one from Dells website (actually there are 3) or directly from NVIDIA's website?

Any advice appreciated.

I would first uninstall the current drivers for your NVidia 64 MB card.  Then shutdown your system, detach all cables, ground yourself using a wriststrap, or at least touching metal part on your computer, then switch out the two cards, close system, reattach cables, boot up, let XP detect your new FX card, and cancelling out the new hardware wizard if shows up, then use the CD to install the drivers for the FX card that came with the card.  (You can also first download the new FX drivers from NVidia's site prior to doing anything else and just do not run them until you have actaully installed the new card.  Choice is yours-saves a step or two.)

After your system is recognizing the new card, I would then go to NVidia site and download the latest 50 series drivers (which ideally are for the FX line of NVidia cards), if they are not the ones that came on the CD with the new card (most likely not).

I prefer to use drivers from NVidia's site as opposed to the ones at Dell, but it your preference.  Sometimes you will not get all of the features that are available for your video card when using the Dell drivers.

Some also use the driver cleaner available at post in top of forum, but I have never used that when switching out NVidia to NVidia cards, only then switching to ATI from NVidia, or vice-versa.
